I woke up at 4.30am and got ready for the big day. I had a few last minute things to do for work; I know, cutting it fine. The taxi arrived at 5.30 and I headed for Heathrow airport with my navy blue bike box, yellow suitcase and grey backpack.
As I got off I met Kevin, one of the cyclists who I had been in contact with from Manchester but never managed to cycle with. We trundled our bikes and bags to the meeting point and met the rest of the team. Everyone seemed to recognise me, asking me “are you Tariq?”. I think the beard and active participation on strava and Facebook gave it away.
It was humbling to meet people from all walks of life, young and old all travelling to the beautiful country of Palestine to help raise awareness and raise money to provide healthcare for the Palestinians. Most people are going there for the first time and for some it is their first cycling trip. We can all do something to help people and make a difference. I’m very honoured to be travelling with such amazing people who are nothing short of heroes.
As we waited for the delayed flight, we popped into Pret for a much needed porridge and coffee.

Please remember us in your thoughts prayers. I’ll keep everyone updated throughout the trip. Please share the posts with family and friends and let me know if the posts are useful / interesting / should be changed.
